I well remember "Gabija", the Lithuanian Hearth Fire Goddess – and the simple offerings of bread and salt made to her. She is the vital centre of each home. Also, there is the Aitvaras - guardian spirits of the woods or the home. Today, I love to continue these tales and traditions from long ago. If they are not passed down, but are forgotten, we lose a part of what made us and who we are. And we lose touch with the magic that is all around us. When we create our magical characters, we pay homage and respect to those from the other realm and they will be kept alive. Thank you for helping to keep the fires of tradition burning Natasha! I realize it has to be really hard to work in time to sculpt with a thriving ebay store for artists, but I bet you that when you can manage to sculpt, even just a couple of hours a day, it gives you a feeling of accomplishment that the store cannot match. I bet that you get a feeling of well being, peace, and that it lifts your spirits. Now, I think if you have had a bad day at sculpting, you may not exactly feel as good, but when it is good it is very good. Am I correct? You have done a great job with him. I love his mismatched eyes it makes it look as though the blue eye is from the blue of the cup, that hasn't quite gone back to the brown yet. I don't know if that was the way they were supposed to appear (as if the difference is due to the shifting shape) or not, but it works that way. I really like the expression you have given him. He not only looks surprised and embarrassed at being caught, but a little disgruntled or peeved at it too. He looks like he will be quite the character. I was sorry to know that the previous sculpt you worked on of her didn't make it, I thought she was beautiful and I remember the struggles you had getting the various parts of her to look the way you wanted them to look. Anyway, I know the store takes more and more of your time and it cannot be easy to make time to sculpt, but if you aren't sculpting, then the world is missing the beauty you create when you are creating a new sculpt, and posting your progress, gives the world a new fountain of inspiration for the many followers of your blog, as well as, teaching not only the lore of your sculpts, but the true process that a sculptor goes through from start to finish when one decides to put hand to clay and be inspired by their imagination as they cultivate their talent. It is a process that few artists are willing to show others and it is to your credit that you show not only the way you do your sculpts, but that you describe what and why you do a particular thing and you show those things that you determine to be mistakes along with the successes.
